L'État américain du Maryland est divisé en 157 municipalités, qui peuvent être appelées city, town ou village.

Création et statut

Pour créer une municipalité, il est nécessaire de rassembler au moins 300 habitants. Tous les types de municipalité, à l'exception de la ville de Baltimore, dépendent du même statut dans la loi du Maryland, même si certaines peuvent adopter des chartes « home rule » leur permettant d'adapter leurs modes de fonctionnement.

À noter que certains « villages » du comté de Montgomery ne sont pas des municipalités mais des districts spéciaux fiscaux.
